How NOT to be a two-clicker... Empty How NOT to be a two-clicker...

    Post  Hadrian X Wed Jun 24, 2009 12:23 pm

Some people may find eRepublik boring. It definitely can be if you are a "two-clicker" (click on work and train and done for the day). The game starts off fairly slow, but if you search around, there's lots to do and plenty of interesting people to meet.

A majority of your time spent on the actual game (if you're not a "two-clicker") will be done by sending PM's (personal messages), on external forums and in chatrooms/IRC's. On the surface, the game is work (click), train (click) and if you're really ambitious, maybe fight (click) or buy/sell something (click). But there is a hidden layer of depth to this game that really comes about from the strong communities that have developed within the game.

There are tons of national interests, business/economic interests, political agendas and general social interactions that players can engage in.

    Where are your interests?

MILITARY: Once you reach level 2, you can train and become a better soldier. Once you reach level 5, you can fight in wars and training battles. From there, you can join a military service, fight in organized battles against other nations and rise in rank. Or, some players even become mercenaries, charging money and/or gold to join a fight on behalf of a paying country (customer!).

POLITICS: At level 6 you can vote in elections. Level 7 you can join a political party and at Level 12 you can run for Congress. The Presidency can be yours at only level 13 if you can muster enough people to vote for you, so get on the campaign trail. Once in office you can propose and/or vote on issues (declarations of war, alliances, setting tax levels, issuing currency, etc.) all of which could have profound effects on the whole eWorld.

ECONOMICS: Once you reach level 9, you can start your own company and become your own boss with your own employees. At level 11, you can create an organization that can own and operate many different companies. Or, if you prefer, you can instead (or at the same time) invest in Currency Markets, flip houses for profit, buy stock/shares in someone else's company or loan money to others so they can start a business and collect interest from them (venture capitalist!).

SOCIAL: Or you can do none of that (or all of it) and simply work a day job to make money to eat (so you stay alive) and just wander the forums and chat rooms for entertainment. If you have something to say, you can create your own newspaper too and get thousands of readers to read your ramblings.

Basically, because the game is so loose and open, there is lots to do -- if you go and find it. Yes, there's strategic planning come election time with "movable voting" and in PTO's (Political Take Overs) when you want to take over another country (yes, you can do that!), but if you don't want to do any of that, you don't have to. That's the most interesting thing about eRepublik I found. There is no right or wrong way to play (unless you don't eat and then die, that's not good) and so you can spend as much or as little time with the game as you want because there are really no winners or losers.

So hopefully you'll find some aspect of the game that you enjoy like I have. There are lots of deals being made and wars going on, you just have to find them.

Here are some good places to start:
    International Forums
    IRC Chat Channels
    The almighty eRepublik Wiki

Any questions, just ask! Good luck and have fun!
